Beauchief: Lutheran-style Holy Communion

29th October 2017 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The monastic life of Beauchief Abbey, on the southern fringes of Sheffield, was a victim of Henry VIII’s reformations. The church itself was eventually transformed into a private chapel for the local landowners. Today, it belongs to Sheffield Council. Weekly worship is maintained by volunteers (according to the practices of the Church of England).

On the Sunday closest to the 1517 anniversary, Beauchief’s worshippers will experience a temporary change: The normal Sunday morning service will use the traditional Lutheran communion service, as used in Germany–but in English translation!  Visitors are welcome.

This service is organised by the Rev Professor John Rogerson, a biblical scholar and former Head of Department at the University of Sheffield.
