500 years on from the start of the Reformation, it has been suggested that the English Reformation was in a sense the first ‘Brexit’ – that the break from Rome facilitated the development of a distinctive English political and cultural identity.

In this illustrated talk, Professor Anthony Milton explores the impact of the Reformation and how far we can make any meaningful parallels between the two events.
